Q?

How long should I wait in between oil changes and should I wait until my oil light comes on?

A.

This is a good question and is asked of us very frequently.  Typically your vehicle can go 3 months or 3,000 miles (whichever comes first) before the next oil change.  However, synthetic oils allow you a longer interval between changes (some up to 5,000 miles) before your next oil change.  However, we do not advise that long as it truly does break down the oils in that long of intervals.

Q?

Can you improve my fuel economy?

A.

Yes, often times we can.  Here at American Garage, we firmly believe that fuel economy is one of the best things you can get out of your vehicle!  We have a full line of products from BG that can help improve your fuel economy.  The BG 44k Power enhancer cleans fuel-robbing deposits in one professional application.  This dramatically increases combustion and horsepower resulting in a more powerful and fuel-efficient engine.  Ask us today about our products and services to help your vehicle.

Q?

I have pretty bad tire wear, can you help with this, or do you know what is causing it?

A.

Typically when there is tire wear, there is usually an issue in the front end components of your vehicle.  Tie rod ends, ball joints, idler arms and pitman arms.  If they have any play in them they can cause your alignment to be incorrect and will eventually show signs of wear on your tires.  The best way to tell what is going on is to schedule an appointment to have your alignment checked.  Remember that it is a good idea to get your tires rotated every other oil change to prevent uneven tire wear.

Q?

Can you eliminate odors in my vehicle that I cannot get rid of?

A.

YES we can!  We have an awesome product that will eliminate pretty much any odor your vehicle may have.  From mice to mildew and more, this product deodorizes through a chemical reaction in the air that destroys odor permanently and does not mask the smell.  The difference in the smell of vehicles after deodorizing is amazing!

Q?

Would you recommend getting an aftermarket automatic start put on my vehicle?

A.

At American Garage we firmly believe that it is not in the best interest of your vehicle to install an autostart as it can cause cause major electrical issues and sometimes fire.  Those installed direct from the factory do not inherently affect the electrical system as it is engineered correctly at the factory.  We will not install aftermarket automatic starting devices.

Q?

How much do you charge for diagnostic time?

A.

Yes we charge a minimum of $85.00 to diagnose your vehicle.  If the diagnostic time takes longer than an hour, we charge accordingly.

Q?

What do I do if my Check Engine light is on?

A.

Typically with Check Engine Lights, there could be a number of issues causing it, from not getting the gas cap on tight enough, to a plugged EVAP vent and so much more.  This is a very common question on most vehicles and can be solved by hooking it up to our scan tool and resolving the issue at hand by repairing what needs fixed.  If your Check Engine Light is flashing, DO NOT drive the vehicle as that indicates a catastrophic failure.  Call us right away and we will help you resolve the issue.
